Berton has such a gift for giving historical figures life, and the men and women involved in Arctic exploration are incredibly interesting to read about. ![]() His research is exhaustive, using letters written by and about the participants in the various Arctic voyages. Pretty much the definitive narrative for Arctic exploration. This is the first Pierre Berton book I have ever read and, having now done so, I can't imagine why I waited so long.
